The Roland High Life has been described in a lot of different ways. But ska is not typically a word that people land on, for better or for worse. Still, a lot of us have ska roots (some of us *cough*JAKE*cough* deeper than others)—so we’re particularly excited to be invited to play our very first SKA-lloween show!
Well, sort of.
Courtney from Bad Idea USA put this show together—which, yes, also includes Jake’s ska band, The New Limits. And she was also the brilliant mind who had the idea to ask Chris and Thom to join forces with her and Sean (Bad Idea’s drummer, also Courtney’s husband) for a very special one-time-only cover set of OPERATION IVY SONGS!
How could we possibly turn that down?
On the surface: sure, we might not seem like the most OpIvy-adjacent rock n’ roll band. But for me (Thom), Energy was one of those albums that basically taught me to play guitar. (Though re-learning those songs has reminded me of just how fast they are, holy shit.)
That’s not the only connection, either. You know our most recent single, “Face It, Tiger?”

Take a closer look at that album art (as drawn by Dave Ganjamie)…
Well take a look at this old Spider-Man comic book cover:
Notice anything about Spidey’s stance here?
Wait a second…
See what we did there?
Anyway, come check us out singing Operation Ivy songs at Salem SKA-lloween on THIS FRIDAY, October 25, 2024. It’ll likely be the least obnoxious thing going on in Salem that weekend!
