We’ve been big fans of Andrea Neuenfeldt’s ongoing Now That’s What I Call Heartbreak cover song fundraiser compilation series for years now. And we’re excited to share that the Roland High Life has finally had the chance to participate in Volume 7, which is all about love songs from movie soundtracks. For this year’s comp, we’ve contributed our own extra-angsty take on that classic Wheatus banger, “Teenage Dirtbag.”

If you’ve come to a show recently, you may have seen us play this song live already. (You also probably know that the crowd always goes wild for Nick’s sick falsetto). Like at our recent show at O’Brien’s in Allston…
Or at Aeronaut Allston at the end of the summer…
Or on the Boston Common in July…
Or even just a few weeks ago at the Middle East Upstairs!
We’d already been messing around with a studio version of our cover, and this seemed like a great opportunity to share it with the world. Also can you believe that song turns 25 years old this year?!
Our cover of “Teenage Dirtbag” is currently only available on Bandcamp. We may end up adding it to one of those other streaming services eventually. But who knows when that will happen! in the meantime, the whole compilation (33 songs in all) will cost you a measly $8. All the proceeds from the album go towards Moon Over Salem, a new all-ages DIY performance space in downtown Salem, Massachusetts.
Also: bonus shout-out to Dereck Blackburn of Quiethouse Recording! Dereck helped us capture the bones of the song in a proper studio setting, and also mastered the final product. He’s great.
